Our Review
Rod and Cecile Roberts retained the best consultants in the state when their 20ha Ossa Vineyard was planted and the first wines made. Tasmanian Vintners is a custom crush and ferment facility providing birth-to-bottle care. Their desire for sustainability resulted in an entirely solar-powered structure; removing noxious plant species, fencing wildlife zones; and cleaning waterways. The vineyard wasn't in bearing in ’20, so they sourced small parcels of chardonnay, pinot noir and sparkling, and the first wine ex the estate Belbrook Vineyard was chardonnay ’21. All of which made the '20 pinot noir, winning Best Wine at the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge ’21 (and a 2nd trophy for Best Tasmanian Wine) akin to a fairy tale. -JAMES HALLIDAY
