Notes from the editor:

Welcome to the new (and hopefully improved) Halliday magazine. In the interests of keeping things fresh, we've made changes to a few sections of this magazine.

Firstly, we've condensed the recipe pages and retired MyCellar (it'll live here online instead) and mail. In their place, we've introduced a variety spotlight feature (this issue, it's all about picpoult) and new Tasting Team member Mike Bennie has a page to wax lyrical about exciting things happening in the world of drinks (which may or may not include wine). We've introduced a regular learning section in conjunction with Halliday Wine Academy, and we've replaced wishlist with a how-to page. First up: the proper way to open a bottle of sparkling wine.

As this is the first issue with Campbell Mattinson as chief editor, Tyson Stelzer's opinion page has now become Campbell's. In his first piece, he writes about how much Australians love flavour, how he felt when James asked him to take on the role, and introduces Mike Bennie and Shanteh Wale, the newest members of the Tasting Team. Also inside: Tom Kline explores Australia's up-and-coming wine regions, Nola James shares her knowledge on drinking wine in New York, and Jane Parkinson dives deep into Franciacorta - Italy's answer to Champagne.

Cheers,

Anna
