Highclare Estate

High Clare Estate lies on an elevated, north-facing slope at Hillwood in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley. Up until '16, it was an abandoned sheep station, lying fallow for some 40 years before being lovingly brought back to life by Sarah and Matt Hurst. Today it’s an 8ha single-site vineyard with a bright, detailed range of wines including a blanc de noirs sparkling, pinot gris and pinot noir, all made by Fran Austin and Shane Holloway of Delamere Wines. There are plans afoot for a cellar door, and it’s great to see a nascent wine label with such delicious wines on the Northern Tasmania wine route. -DAVE BROOKES
