Our Review
Brisbane lad Thomas New worked in fine city establishments such as Cru Bar and Nectar before moving to the Granite Belt, working as viticulturist for Bent Road and releasing his first wine label, La Petite Mort. Stints with Howard Park, Stefano Lubiana and Mac Forbes followed before the pull of Tasmania proved too strong and he returned, setting up an urban winery just north of Hobart. There’s an impressive range of wines under the Future Perfect banner. Chardonnay and pinot noir from the Upper Derwent Valley, riesling from the Coal River shiraz from West Tamar and Coal River ‘House Wine’ and the Bitter Moon vermouth. There is a detail and vitality to the wines here, with some thoughtful and intuitive winemaking at play – the future for New Tassie looks bright. -DAVE BROOKES
