Our Review
Vaughn Dell and Linda Morice purchased the former Golders Vineyard in '05 (planted in '94). More recent vineyard plantings include 14 clones of pinot noir and 11 clones of chardonnay, as well as small amounts of grüner veltliner, pinot gris, pinot blanc, gewürztraminer, riesling and gamay. The vineyard is close-planted, the density up to a backbreaking 11 110 vines/ha, with the fruiting wire 40cm above the ground. The wines are made with a minimalist approach: natural ferments, basket pressing, extended lees ageing and minimal fining and filtration. Tragically, Vaughn died suddenly, days after celebrating his 39th birthday, in May '20. Australia has lost a winemaker of ultimate skill and vision shared by a small handful of others. -JAMES HALLIDAY
