Berg Herring

In the heart of Sellicks Beach you will find a small cellar door housed in a heritage-listed sandstone chapel built in 1862. This is the home of Berg Herring and is where winemaker Sam Dunlevy and partner Chloe Fitzgerald sell their wines. Sam crafts wines that are fresh and true and, while he does produce the mainstays of the Vale – shiraz and grenache – Sam opts to focus on the potential of heat-tolerant varieties – vermentino, fiano, nero d’Avola, barbera, saperavi and touriga – in a quest to showcase how they thrive in the region. Earlier picking in the vineyards and minimal intervention application in the winery results in fruit-forward, refreshing styles intended for early consumption. -KATRINA BUTLER
