Our Review
Hare’s Chase was created by 2 families, headed respectively by (ex Penfolds) Peter Taylor as then winemaker, with over 30 vintages’ experience, and Mike de la Haye as general manager. Together they purchased a 100+yo vineyard in the Marananga Valley area of the Barossa Valley, in ’97, though the brand has changed hands multiple times since. The vineyard has some of the best red soil available for dry-grown viticulture. Extensive replanting means that three-quarters of the vineyard is planted to now 20+yo shiraz vines, with some mataro, cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo. -JAMES HALLIDAY
