Gumpara Wines

South Australia | Barossa Valley

Our Review

In 1856 the Mader family left Silesia to settle in SA, acquiring a 25ha property at Light Pass. Over the generations, farming and fruit growing gave way to 100% grapegrowing; 6 generations later, in '00, Mark Mader produced the first wine under the Gumpara label. After success with shiraz, Mark branched out into semillon made from a small parcel of almost 90yo estate vines. The portfolio may be small but it’s certainly diverse, also with Vermentino, Grenache and a range of fortified wines. The name Gumpara comes from the words ‘gum’ reflecting the large red gumtrees on the property and ‘para’, the local Aboriginal word for river. Exports to the US. -JAMES HALLIDAY
