Heifer Station

New South Wales | Orange

Our Review

Founders Phillip and Michelle Stivens both grew up on the land but spent over 25 years in the corporate world. When their 5 adult children left the nest, they decided to retire to the land. When Heifer Station came onto the market they did not hesitate to purchase it. There was an existing 25ha vineyard, planted in 1998, barely visible through the blackberries, and their intention was to remove the vines. But locals argued they should not do so, pointing to the ideal soils: red loam over limestone. After much contemplation, they agreed to give the vineyard a go and it has indeed proved its worth. In Jan '16 they opened a cellar door, housed in a 100-year-old woolshed on the property. -JAMES HALLIDAY
