Our Review
Since purchasing the substantial Brokenback Vineyard in '09, Bill and Vicki Widin have wasted no time. Initially the Widins leased the Tempus Two winery but prior to the ’13 vintage they completed the construction of their own winery and cellar door. They have also expanded the range of varieties, supplementing the long-established 30ha of shiraz, 25ha of chardonnay and 3ha of semillon with between 0.5 and 2ha of each of verdelho, viognier, gewürztraminer, pinot gris and tempranillo. They have had a string of wine show successes for their very impressive portfolio. In ’16 Leogate purchased a 61ha certified organic vineyard at Gulgong (Mudgee) planted to shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The opulent cellar door is the perfect place to enjoy that unique taste which only the Hunter Valley and our award winning wines can provide: smooth, rich chardonnays from wide rimmed glasses, crisp and clear semillons of international renown, peppery earthy shiraz with a touch of leather and magnificently fruitful verdelho. All produced from the great vines of one of the most highly regarded vineyards in Australia.
From intimate fireside tastings in winter to relaxing alfresco tastings overlooking the ranges in summer, our knowledgeable and welcoming cellar door staff will make sure your visit to Leogate Estate is an experience to remember.
We are happy to accept group tastings, however if you are planning to visit with more than 6 friends, please be sure to give us a call prior to your arrival to ensure we can accommodate you all in comfort and style…as is the Leogate way.
