Lark Hill

New South Wales | Canberra District

Our Review

The Lark Hill vineyard is situated at an elevation of 860m, offering splendid views of the Lake George escarpment. The Carpenters make wines of real quality, style and elegance, particularly their pinot noirs in favourable vintages. Significant changes came in the wake of son Chris gaining a double degree in wine science and viticulture through CSU and the organic/biodynamic certification of the vineyard and wines in ’03. Lark Hill planted the first grüner veltliner in Australia in '05 and in '11 purchased 1 of the 2 Ravensworth vineyards from Michael Kirk, with plantings of sangiovese, shiraz and viognier. This site, now known as the Dark Horse vineyard, was converted to organic and biodynamic farming in ’13, with teroldago and gargenega planted in ’21 and fahlangina in ’22. Fruit for the Regional series is purchased from several sites around Canberra. -JAMES HALLIDAY
