There were four stand-out brackets – or five if you include Fortified – at our Awards judging. Chardonnay for the sheer number of terrific wines; Other Whites and Blends for the high interest factor; Shiraz for its diversity; and Grenache for its ability to sweep tasters off their feet and to then send them into raptures. It hasn’t happened overnight and we’ve sung this song (from the rooftops) before, but grenache has well and truly arrived as a star of our great wine country. Go deep. Go long.
