Whipper Snapper Distillery Single Malt Australian Whiskey
Whipper Snapper’s single malt whisky is far less oak-forward than its other expressions, because it’s been matured for a minimum of four years in refill barrels rather than virgin oak. The cool part here is that, while the lion’s share of single malt whisky produced globally is matured in ex-bourbon casks from the US, this one is matured in Whipper Snapper’s own ex-whisky casks. After all, it makes its own bourbon-style whiskies, so why bother getting its casks from anywhere else? The result is a whisky with lovely floral and citrus notes on the nose, light and pretty but still with plenty of nutty grain and oak to give it power. As with much of Whipper Snapper’s spirits, the careful distillation and cask selection is evident in the cleanliness and integration on display. A nicely textured palate and light finish make this an easy-drinking and approachable Australian single malt whisky.
