Hellyers Road Distillery Voyager Cask Whisky

I have no idea why this whisky is half the price of its American Oak sibling at just one year younger, but an Australian whisky at 20 years of age for under $1,000 is unheard of, so if you're chasing big age statements, this is an absolute bargain. Light and subtle on the nose with very well-controlled alcohol at nearly 55%, there’s gentle lime curd, fresh mint sweetness, and plenty of complexity without being overcooked or aggressively oaky. It has one of the nicest, most gentle palates of any Hellyer’s I’ve tried, buttery and balanced. For such an old whisky I wouldn’t mind a little more through the finish but this is still an entirely enjoyable, and dangerously drinkable, dram.
