Coriole
Rubato Reserve Fiano 2024
McLaren ValeA deeply fruited and textural iteration this year, while also possessing considerable verve and effortlessness. Golden delicious, nashi pear, fresh fennel seeds and fronds, green almond, lime pith, mandarin oil and a green cardamom/fenugreek leaf spice note. It’s saline and lightly chewy, working in neat concert with the fruit intensity that swells on the mid-palate, keen acidity joining the fray to close out, the flavours lingering indelibly. It’s also a wine that builds with interest over a couple of days and as the temperature climbs. It’s a beacon for the variety’s elevated potential here. Absolutely top drawer. -
Dal Zotto Wines
Pucino Vintage Prosecco 2024
Sparkling | King ValleyA definite step up from non-vintage and, while it shares the same high level of joyful prosecco exuberance, there is added depth of flavour and a rousing savouriness that shows the serious side to the grape. Scents flow from floral through to citrus with green apple and honeydew melon. A lasting note of preserved lemon savouriness brings an intensity of flavour to the palate that resonates. Hard to say no to a second glass. -
Medhurst
Chardonnay 2024
Yarra ValleyAll estate fruit; whole-bunch pressed to puncheons, hogsheads and barriques (20% new). 10–15% mlf. A very bright green gold. Bright and pure. White peach and grapefruit with the oak already well integrated into the wine. The palate is spot-on, even now, with terrific purity and vibrant, balanced acidity. Absolutely overdelivers at the price. That it will age well in the short term, at least, is a bonus. -

Whitfield Gewürztraminer 2025
King ValleyGewürz is super well suited to the high alpine, super cool Darling Estate vineyard at Whitlands, which supplied the grapes for this wine. It's fine boned and delicately delivered, delightfully so, with a spiciness that jumps out of the glass. Aromas of musky florals, lychee, rose petal, tangerine and candied ginger. Builds on the palate and just keeps on going, replete in apple, citrus, high aromatics, spring florals and that gorgeous, lasting spiciness. Essentially off-dry in style, matched to bright acidity. Bring on the Thai food. -
Sons of Eden
Freya Riesling 2024
Eden ValleyI've written before how I like the 2024 Eden Valley rieslings. They are perhaps not as aromatically punchy as the norm but they are stony-pure with that familiar Christmas lily volume just turned down a notch. But that focused line, eh?! The Freya here is a beauty, all velocity and limey precision and I am here for it. A cracker.

Yalumba
The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz 2018
BarossaYalumba's flagship offering is made from shiraz split across vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valleys with an average age of 80 years. A portion is matured for 23 months in 30% new French oak barriques and hogsheads and the balance in one-year-old (and older) American octaves, French barriques and hogsheads. Deep crimson with ripe blackberry, black cherry, satsuma plum and blueberry fruits cut with baking spices, vanillin oak, cedar, licorice, dark chocolate, clove and violets. The fruit glistens on the palate, beautifully weighted and graceful in its shape, with ripe tannins melting into the wine and a shimmering acidity that provides cadence and shines a light on the pristine fruit. This will cellar beautifully, but my goodness it is lovely to drink at the moment. Another epic Octavius release. -
Medhurst
Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Malbec 2023
Yarra ValleyLeft on skins for an extended maturation and racked to French oak barriques (35% new). Medhurst has a habit of turning out well crafted and stylish cabernets and this new wine is no exception. A gorgeous, bright crimson red, the nose is perfumed with black cherries, raspberries, cedar, violets and a touch of bell pepper coming to the fore. Medium bodied and with very fine, persistent tannins providing both structure and length. A deserving top gold in a hot field of cabernet blends at this year's Yarra Valley Wine Show. -

Estate Shiraz 2023
Hunter ValleyTremendous power and energy, yet beautifully composed, with engaging characters of warm, spiced plums and cherries. It is an easy-to-love style that epitomises the essence of shiraz with its brightness, balance and easy generosity. Flowing, fragrant and ripe without being excessive. The strength of the Dalwood vineyard shines through, and the wine's impeccable balance sets it apart. -
Whisson Lake
White Label Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir 2022
Adelaide HillsA fragile, beautiful, delicate wine. Crisp red cherry meets pomegranate juice, brined green olive, cranberry, white raspberry and an array of sweet and savoury spices. This is a delicate and brittle wine, so pure, so fresh, so fine. Impressive for its understatement and yet drive. A wine to sit on and contemplate for its beauty. Very good. -
Byrne Farm
Shiraz Pinot Noir 2022
OrangeA tiny smattering of reduction so this wine benefits from a swift decant. Here you'll uncover dense prune plums, Bing cherries and coils of raspberry fruit straps. Acidity upholds the promise of a crunchy red but is also a seriously structural wine. Tannins are a fine sandpaper of granular texture and there is a paperbark, cumin and ground ginger spice. The sinewy palate weight and zesty fruit means it's a wine you want to keep drinking, any day of the week. Keep these blends coming!
