These 19 Orange wines are new to Wine Companion. From sauvignon blanc, riesling, chardonnay and marsanne to pinot noir and shiraz – each of these wines has been scored 'highly recommended' or 'outstanding' by the Tasting Team.

The Orange wine region in New South Wales is home to some of the highest-elevation (up to 1390m above sea level) vineyard sites in Australia. The climate, warm days followed by cooler nights, makes the region famous for shiraz, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, along with an emergence of riesling and pinot noir, and other reds like Spain's tempranillo and Italy's sangiovese.

If you're travelling to the region, Orange is a 40-minute plane ride from Sydney, or if you prefer the scenic route, a three-hour drive from the city.

On your next visit, stop off at wineries including Highland Heritage, Angullong WinesByrne Farm, Cooks Lot, See SawPrinthie Wines, Colmar Estate, Ross Hill Wines, and Philip Shaw Wines.

Orange is also a foodie haven, from hatted restaurants like Charred Kitchen & Bar and Tonic to weekend karaoke at Mr Lim, or if you're after a classic, Union Bank is not to be missed. And if you're in the region in April, there's a 10-day feast festival known as Orange F.O.O.D Week.

Below are 19 wines from Orange that are new to Wine Companion. Some are from wineries in the region, and others are from wineries who might not reside in the region (like Carillion Wines, Centennial Vineyards, Logan WinesGilbert Family Wines, and Pepper Tree Wines) but they know how good the grapes from Orange are.

Here are the some of the best Orange wines to try.
